Kabo Hospital, Kano State

Kabo town is an agrarian community and local government headquarters of Kabo LGA.  The community has a population of 12, 276 inhabitants. The town lies on Karaye valleys, 54.4 Kilometers away from Kano Metropolis. Kabo Cottage hospital was commissioned on Thursday 15th April 1999.  Currently the health facility has adequate staff, functioning borehole, electricity and standby generator. In addition, the facility is equipped with surgical theater where minor and major surgeries are done. The Impact of better health on development, poverty reduction and the achievement of the health goals is indeed massive especially for the rising population of Nigerians which presently stands at about 200million including women and children. To make certain that health is prioritized within the overall economic and development plans, Follow The Money research team uncovered the tender advertisement by Kabo Local Government Council to construct 20 Bedward at Kabo Hospital, Kano State.

To provide oversight and foster information sharing between the implementing agency and the beneficiary community on the implementation of this project, FTM team is initiating #RehabilitateKabo campaign. Project Implementation is Currently At 90%

Furnishing of the New 20 Bed Ward Has Started

26/06/2019: Kano Follow The Money lead by Ali Isa embarked on a community outreach to Kabo to further strengthen citizen participation and extensively monitor the level of implementation so far. Satisfactorily the team recorded that the implementation is at 90 percent as at the time the outreach was conducted and the contractor has started furnishing the new ward with beds. FOI request sent to Dambatta Local Government Area, Dambatta, Kano State 

20/05/2019: Follow the Money sent an FOI request to the Executive chairman Dambatta Local Government Area, Dambatta, Kano State on general renovation of Gwanda comprehensive health care. Considering the bidding process for the project ended, a request for specific cost, list of successful contractors, implementation calendar and all contract documents available as regarding the project was requested. 26/6/2019: The Money lead by Ali Isa embarked on a community outreach to Kabo. The community outreach was conducted in order to interact with the wider community and its leadership, media interviews were carried out and appeals made to the implementation agency for speedy implementation of the project. 08/08/2019: The FTM team held a town hall meeting in Kabo Town, Kabo LGA Kano State on the Construction of 20 bed ward at Kabo Hospital. The town hall meeting was organized to bring all stakeholders together to interact with the wider community and to appeal to the implementation agency for speedy implementation of the project.

Issues Surrounding the Construction

08/08/2019: Although the project is at 90% near completion, the community members expressed their displeasure with the substandard materials used for the project. The called on Kabo Local Government Council to construct medical personnel lodge especially for nurses and midwives. The implementing agency gave assurances that all issues raised and meeting notes will be sent to the Council for appropriate action.
