Kurgwi is an educational town in Qua’an pan LGA, it sits on the Shendam – Lafia expressway on a land mass of 380km2 and an estimated population of 6,000, GSS Kurgwi is the community’s oldest school established  in the second republic, but in recent times it has been neglected, a large fraction of our desks are already broken, student dread resumption because of the discomfort of sitting on the floor

In view of the aforementioned Follow The Money has activated #FurnishKurgwi campaign to track the implementation of the supply of furniture project in GSS Kurgwi school. We hereby call on all stakeholders especially UBEC to put the public interest first. The general public can join this call on www.ifollowthemoney.org

Issues surrounding the project currently being implemented

20/09/2018: There aren’t any issues yet as the project implementation is yet to commence, however, the community was not aware of the project until the follow the money team brought the news to the community.

20/09/2018: Alpha Danjuma a student at the said school stated their expectation as following “ We hope to get better furniture, therein enabling us to get educated in a conducive and competitive environment”

Townhall meeting for all stakeholders

22/11/2018: Plateau State Follow The Money organized a town hall meeting bringing all the stakeholders concerned with the implementation of the school project to discuss issues relating to the project. In attendance were: UBEC officials, education secretary Langtang-North, Zamadede community members, Kurgwi community members, and the media. Read the full report here.

UBEC promises to follow up with the project’s bids evaluation outcomes

22/11/2018: UBEC Plateau State Office representative at the meeting, Dr. Zuhumnan during the townhall meeting, made a commitment that he would follow up with the bids evaluation on the project and inform the educational secretaries of the local government to be in the know of such development. He also called on the community leaders to follow up with the educational secretaries on the updates around the project. He promised that besides following up on the project’s contracting status, he will ensure the UBEC monitoring team monitors the project alongside the communities when implementation starts.
