Current Status of Gwanda Comprehensive Health Centre

Gwanda is a remote farming settlement in Dambatta LGA. The community has a population of 6, 672 inhabitants. The village lies on Dambatta plains, 65.2 Kilometers away from Kano Metropolis. Gwanda Comprehensive Health Centre was constructed in 2011. Currently the health facility has inadequate medical personnel and does not admit patients due to lack of medical equipment and consumables. Patients are referred to either Dambatta General Hospital (25KM away) or Kazaure General Hospital (36.8KM) in Jigawa State. Better health is central to human happiness and well-being. It also makes a major contribution to economic progress, as healthy population live longer, are productive and saves more. To effectively monitor the country’s contribution to quality health care services for all, Follow The Money data mining team discovered that the Dambatta Local Government Council in its tender advertisement, has slated for the General Renovation of Gwanda Comprehensive Health Centre, at Dambatta LGA.

Follow The Money has Initiated #RenovateGwanda campaign to track and provide oversight over the  implementation of this project and simultaneously on board the beneficiary community with timely and detailed information to enable citizens participation and foster their inclusion in the project. To enable a successful campaign, We are calling on all stakeholders, most importantly the Dambatta Local Government Council, the good people of Dambatta Community and the general public to participate fully in this campaign and provide all necessary information that will foster the full implementation of this project.

17/05/2019: Kano Follow The Money Team embarked on a preliminary visit exercise to Dambatta LGA to ascertain the implementation status of the Gwanda Comprehensive Health Centre. Findings reveals that project implementation is yet to commence.

17/05/2019: The facility is in a deployable state as basic medical services ranging from immunization to antenatal services has been suspended and the facility taken over by rodents and reptiles thereby exposing patients and staff to diseases.

Kano FTM Team Embark On A Community Outreach To Gwanda

At the streets of Gwanda, Residents aided their voice to #RenovateGwanda 

28/06/2019: The Kano Follow The Money team lead by Ali Isa embarked on a community outreach to Gwanda Comprehensive Healthcare to monitor the level of implementation and discuss project status with community stakeholders and members. Findings reveals that the project is at 15% completion and the contractor has started renovating the roofs although with substandard woods. Timeline for completion of the project completion is slated for August 2019.

FOI request sent to Kabo Local Government Area, Kabo, Kano State 

20/05/2019: Follow the Money sent an FOI request to the Executive chairman Dambatta Local Government Area, Dambatta, Kano State on general renovation of Gwanda comprehensive health care. Considering the bidding process for the project ended, a request for specific cost, list of successful contractors, implementation calendar and all contract documents available as regarding the project was requested.

Kano Team Embarked on a Town Hall Meeting in Gwanda

9/08/2019: The Team Organized a Town Hall meeting in Gwanda community with 86 People in Attendance including CODE CEO Hamzat Lawal, Primary Health Care staff, representative of the Local Government, Village Head, Youths, Women and media. Despite several promises to attend the Town Hall meeting, Alhaji Idris Haruna The Executive Chairman Dambatta Local Government failed to show up and didn’t send any representative.
