In a bid to Follow the Paris Club Funds in Adamawa State, we sent a Freedom of Information Letter to the state Governor and the State Commissioner of Finance to request for the detail of how the fund received by the state was spent.

We know that N516.38 billion were made to the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory upon the approval of Muhammadu Buhari on November 21, 2016. The payments were in partial settlement of longstanding claims by State Governments relating to over-deductions from their Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) allocation for external debt service arising between 1995 and 2002.

As much as we commend the effort of the State Governor in acknowledging our letter, we ask his leadership to appeal to his Commissioner to assent to our request and make the requested information available to us.

As we continue to reiterate that these monies are not gifts from the Federal Government, we implore Adamawa (state) government to borrow a clue from Bayelsa State admitted the receipt of N6.6b last week without being asked.
