On September 2, 2016 the government of Kano, approved 137 million for the renovation of PHCs in Filin Mushe, Gwale and Makoda LGA of the state. Kantudu in Makoda LGA of Kano State has a primary health care centre that serves 2,500 people, all coming from 13 surrounding villages. The primary health care (PHC) was built 5-6 years ago as the senatorial project for Makoda LGA. The PHC has one male and female ward, which are not presently functioning. There is only three staff with one community health worker. The PHC classified has a general hospital, with no emergency transport system, no power system and a skilled birth attendant. All the health infrastructure at Katundu is already dilapidated, while equipment provided are already malfunction.
As the government of Kano decides to equip the health center at Kantudu using the NGN137 million, and also the World Bank Save One Million Soul 420 million loan recently released to Kano State, we call on transparency and accountability on the funds, in order to equip kantudu immediately. Many times, these funds will not reach the community, as such we enjoin everyone, especially, if you are around Kantudu to Join us in ensuring the 2,500 people around the PHC in Kantudu have access to effective and efficient health care.
Town Hall meeting in Kantudu by our Community Champion
November 18, 2016: A town hall meeting was held at the Kantudu Town Hall, with 42 participants, including members of the community, youth and women groups, the Officer in Charge of the PHC in Kantudu, Kano, the LGA chairman of Makoda Local Government, representatives from the State Primary Healthcare Management Board, and a representative from the State Ministry of Finance, Musa Maimusa.
The latter, who stated clearly, that the campaign has helped the government of the state to look at possibilities of providing funds to get more equipment for the PHC at Kantudu. He stated the state government will provide funding for the PHC in the 1st quarter of 2017, as it is now a priority for them.

They also met with the head of Kantudu community, Alhaji Muhammad Musa, and members of the community association formed for community development, who informed our community reporters that they have reached out to the Government of Kano twice on the state of the health centre in Kantudu, but there was no response. “We hope this campaign with ONE and CODE will make the Government of Kano look at the plight of our health centre so that our people can start using it,” says Malam Ali, the medical head at the PHC.
